Requirements for Parent Volunteers and Chaperones

As required by the PGCPS (Administrative Procedure 4215), all volunteers must follow the security process.

The information to assist you in obtaining clearance, if you have not already done so, is as follows:

http://www1.pgcps.org/security/index.aspx?id=188863

For $7.00 you can get a commercial background check. This will expire at the end of every August after each school year and allows you to volunteer at school and on field trips. The second option is for $61.07 - you can get fingerprinted. The fingerprinting is good indefinitely as long as you volunteer at least once a school year. Both services are available Monday through Friday from 8 am to 11:45 am and 12:30 pm to 3:45 pm at the Sasscer Administration Building: 14201 School Lane in Upper Marlboro, 20772.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Pick up and Drop off Procedures

Next 2 weeks, CMIT South will be sending out pick up and drop off procedures with visual guidance. All parents are asked to follow the traffic pattern and make plans to arrive by 7:25 every morning and by 2:40 every afternoon. It will take 2-3 weeks for all of us to adapt to the new location and the traffic around us. We ask everyone to be patient and to allow additional time in the morning and afternoon.

Information for the New CMIT South Students

All “NEW” CMIT South students will report to CMIT South on Monday, August 24, 2015. Students will go through orientation and start their pre-assessment in Mathematics and Reading. The students will also receive their first week schedule on the same day and they will follow that schedule starting from Tuesday, August 25, 2015.

After the new students complete their pre-assessment during the first week of the school year, CMIT administration will analyze students’ data and place the new students in appropriate curricula. On August 31, 2015, all new students will be placed in their student groups and new schedules will be provided to them.

The following criteria will be utilized to determine your child's curriculum:
-- MSA or other standardized test scores from previous years,
-- Report card from the previous grade,
-- Course history in elementary school (e.g. any advanced or Honors courses),
-- TAG (gifted & talented program at PGCPS) status,
-- Data results from the pre-assessment taken during the first week of the school year

The procedure for placements during the first week of the new school year prior to pre-assessment, August 24 - 28 is as follows:
-- All students coming to CMIT for the first time will be temporarily assigned to student groups based on alphabetical order.
-- Students will go through orientations and take pre-assessments.
-- CMIT administration will check the pre-assessment data along with data from all the other items listed above to schedule students based on their curriculum over the Labor Day weekend.
-- After August 31, students will receive their actual schedule.
The analysis of all pre-assessment data along with the criteria mentioned will ensure your child receives their customized curricula based on their assessed areas of strengths and growth.

  First Day of School

CMIT South parents are asked to arrive early and drop off their students at 7:35. All parents are asked to continue their day without entering the school. Our staff is experienced, trained, and plans are made to handle the student arrival as it was smoothly accomplished at CMIT North and South for the past four years.

Parents will have an opportunity to tour the school during back to school nights. Staff will have minimum availability to take any parent for a tour or to provide assistance with questions as students come in on Monday and Tuesday. If you have any questions, please contact the school this week via phone 240 573 7250 or email secretary@cmitsouth.org.

Quick reminders:
Students are expected to bring writing utensils and a notebook ONLY; no backpacks until lockers are assigned
Parents are asked not to come in to the building on the first day but keep moving with the traffic to make the day smooth
All of us will learn the traffic pattern and density. Please be mindful about the traffic and the wait time for pick up/drop off. Arrival time for students is 7:35 but parents are asked to plan on arriving at 7:25 to get in line. Side entrance door is locked at 7:45 and students are expected report to the main entrance to pick up their tardy slip starting from 7:45 am.
Parents are asked to arrive by 2:40 in the afternoon. Student pick up starts at 2:49 and students are marked as “late pick up” after 3:10.
Traffic is not one of the reasons for “excused” tardy or pick up
All students are expected to be in full uniform starting from the first day of the school year.
Locker size is 12 in * 12 in * 18 in. Large backpacks may not fit.

  After School Enrichment SY15-16

Welcome Back!

We are excited for another great year at CMIT-South! Enrichment will begin Monday, August 24 for 6th grade students and Tuesday, August 25 for 7th grade students. We are looking forward to a very productive year. Here are a few reminders before the program begins:

1. Please take some time remind students of the behavioral expectations of CMIT-South. These expectations are still enforced during the enrichment program. Enrichment contracts will only be valid when behavioral expectations are met.

2. Students must adhere to the enrichment behavioral expectations at all times to ensure a safe and productive environment for all participants. Students should always bring something to work on during enrichment time. Please send your student with a novel or something to work on during the first week.

3. The first week of school is a time for setting routines. Be sure to pick up your students on time starting from day 1. Failure to pick students up on time will result in termination of the enrichment contract. All students should be picked up at their designated pick up time. Pick up and drop off will be located at the cafeteria door.

4. Please provide your student with a snack that is to be consumed in the cafeteria from 2:54-3:15. Eating will not be permitted inside classrooms.

5. Remind student of acceptable electronic device use. At CMIT-South cell phones and other personal electronic devices are prohibited. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in contract termination.

If you have any program specific questions, please reach out to Ms. Futrell at jfutrell@cmitsouth.org

  CMIT South SY15-16 Academic Calendar

CMIT follows PGCPS calendar. Parents are encouraged to register text or email alerts for school closings and emergencies by filling out the online form on PGCPS website: http://www1.pgcps.org/communications/press.aspx?id=152446

Students and parents are asked not to schedule any vacations or trips to coincide with school days for the 2014-15 school year. Maryland state law requires that all students between the ages of 5-16 attend school regularly. Absences from and tardies to school is disruptive to the learning process. Studies have shown that students who attend school on a regular basis earn better grades and learn more than those who are frequently absent. Students will earn incentives for Perfect Attendance.

Please note that June 15, 2016 – June 20, 2016 are assigned as inclement weather make-up days and students may be required to attend school on those days, depending on the weather conditions throughout the Winter. Please do not any family vacations until after June 20, 2016.

Parents and students are asked to visit PGCPS website for 2015-16 calendar updates: http://www1.pgcps.org/calendar/

The state of Maryland recognizes the following as lawful (excused) absences from school:

-Death in the immediate family
-Illness of the student
-Quarantine
-Court summons
-Principal-approved activity
-Mental or physical incapacity
-Violent storms
-Observance of a religious holiday
-State of emergency
