  Welcome Back

CMIT South Students, Staff, and Parents, welcome back. We are about to start another exciting year in a new facility with additional 150 students and 12 new staff members. This year, CMIT South staff will focus on literacy, academic rigor, and safety in a positive learning atmosphere. In partnership with students, parents, and community, CMIT South will continue to attain educational excellence by providing a rigorous and technology-integrated education.

Our staff had a very productive in-service week and all teachers spent Thursday to set up classrooms. CLF office has accomplished a lot in a short period of time and obtained all the permits to open the school on time. Outcome was beyond the expectations; hot meal will be served starting from the first day.

Please read rest of the newsletter to learn more about first week procedures. I am kindly asking parents to drop off students and continue their day without entering the building. As the founding principal of CMIT North and CMIT South, I can confidently say that CLF schools had smooth “first days”, both at Laurel campus in 2011 and at Berkshire building last year. Plans have been made and our staff has been trained. We are ready to face with minor obstacles and challenges at a new facility but nothing to impact our students and staff.

Parents will have an opportunity to tour the school during back to school nights. Staff will have minimum availability to take any parent for a tour or to provide assistance with questions as students come in on Monday and Tuesday.

I look forward to working with all of our families to prepare our students for college and workforce.

Mr. AG

Traffic Pattern & Pick up / Drop off

CMIT South pick up and drop off procedures with visual guidance is now available. All parents are asked to follow the traffic pattern and make plans to arrive by 7:25 every morning and by 2:40 every afternoon. It will take 2-3 weeks for all of us to adapt to the new location and the traffic around us. We ask everyone to be patient and to allow additional time in the morning and afternoon.

Hello, From the New School Counselor

Hello CMIT South Parents/Guardians,

My name is Katie Warehime and I am the new school counselor at CMIT South. I hope everyone had a fun, relaxing summer and are ready to get started on another successful school year. I am very excited to be at CMIT South and am looking forward to working with you and your student(s).

Many people are often confused on what exactly the school counselor’s role is in the school. As your school counselor I will be focusing on the academic, career and personal/social needs of the students at CMIT South. I am available to meet with students individually, in small groups, and in the classroom. I am also available to meet with you throughout the school day to address any issues concerning academic, career and personal/social needs.

I will be attending Back to School Night, where I will have more information for you. I hope to see you there!

If you have any questions you can contact me at kwarehime@cmitsouth.org

Looking forward to a great school year at CMIT South!

Ms. Katie Warehime

  CMIT South SY15-16 Academic Calendar

CMIT follows PGCPS calendar. Parents are encouraged to register text or email alerts for school closings and emergencies by filling out the online form on PGCPS website: http://www1.pgcps.org/communications/press.aspx?id=152446

Students and parents are asked not to schedule any vacations or trips to coincide with school days for the 2014-15 school year. Maryland state law requires that all students between the ages of 5-16 attend school regularly. Absences from and tardies to school is disruptive to the learning process. Studies have shown that students who attend school on a regular basis earn better grades and learn more than those who are frequently absent. Students will earn incentives for Perfect Attendance.

Please note that June 15, 2016 – June 20, 2016 are assigned as inclement weather make-up days and students may be required to attend school on those days, depending on the weather conditions throughout the Winter. Please do not any family vacations until after June 20, 2016.

Parents and students are asked to visit PGCPS website for 2015-16 calendar updates: http://www1.pgcps.org/calendar/

The state of Maryland recognizes the following as lawful (excused) absences from school:

-Death in the immediate family
-Illness of the student
-Quarantine
-Court summons
-Principal-approved activity
-Mental or physical incapacity
-Violent storms
-Observance of a religious holiday
-State of emergency
