Back to School Nights had huge turnouts with high parent participation. Teachers presented curriculum and pacing guide information, shared their syllabus with classroom expectations. Parents received student Edmodo account codes and had opportunities to ask questions.

CLF Board Chairman Mr. Spear Lancaster attended all Back to School Nights and addressed the audience. School administration Mr. AG, Mrs. Asafa, Ms Futrell, school counselor Ms. Warehime, and student support specialists Dr. Reed, Ms. Miles, and Mr. Curtis were introduced to the parents.

Thank you parents for investing your time for the success of our students.

Weed Warrior Work Days
Whitemarsh Park, 100 White Marsh Park Dr, Bowie, MD 20715
September 20th, 2015, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
October 17th, 2015, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
November 8th, 2015, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The City of Bowie’s Green Team is in need of volunteers to help remove English ivy from Whitemarsh Park. As an invasive, non-native plant, English ivy spreads quickly and easily, and is very destructive to native ecosystems. This is an outdoor activity that requires cutting the ivy vines at eye-level and foot-level, then pulling them back about two feet from the base of the tree to bag them. To participate, please register by contacting Kristin Larson (klarson@cityofbowie.org, 301-809-3044). This is a great Student Service Learning opportunity. Children age 14 and younger must be under the direct supervision of a parent/guardian or Troop Leader at all times, and no volunteers under age 16 can use tools but may participate by pulling and bagging vines. Tiffany Wright (Watershed Manager for the City of Bowie) or Kristin Larson (Sustainability Planner for the City of Bowie) will sign off on service learning hours for students at the event.

  Ms. Morani- 7th Grade Science

Greetings 7th grade parents! I am the science teacher for Hampton, UMD, Howard, Harvard and Yale. For those of you who missed back to school night- a few important points that I mentioned.

1) Students are expected to have all supplies in class daily. Most importantly, their science notebook, which must be a sewn page composition book.

2) I have a zero tolerance policy for late work, reminders and due dates can be found in my weekly e-mails to all parents and students, as well as on edmodo.

3) Behavioral expectations for my class are stringent, The physical sciences are not a subject that "students are born knowing" and it can be a challenging course for many. Disruptions and class distractions cannot be tolerated in order to create a fair learning environment for all.

The back to school handout has been attached, which contains "Syllabus Highlights", the full syllabus can be found on edmodo, and was sent home with your student last week.

Have a fantastic 3 day weekend with your students, and DO NOT forget about that STEM fair project!

  College Awareness and Leadership Program

CLP is a mentorship program designed to help students apply for and achieve acceptance in world-class universities and colleges. As you know, maintaining stellar grades may not be enough to be accepted by top institutions. CLP helps qualified students to improve their academics, social skills, extracurricular pursuits, and personal development.

Students in the CLP program are paired with a long-term mentor (teacher or staff member) who will help guide them during their stay in the program. CLP meets once a week for 2.5 hours after school, while the CLP+ program also meets for several hours on Saturday.

Both of these programs overlap with and are based on the Congressional Awards given to high school students who show exemplary involvement in their community, physical education, and personal exploration. If interested, fill out the interest form by 9 am Friday, September 11: http://goo.gl/forms/rajRPIhYyU
