During the first PTO meeting of the year, CMIT South hosted CLF Chairman of CLF Board Mr. Lancaster, CEO of CLF Mr. Karaman, PGCPS Board of Education Members Ms. Williams & Mr. Curtis, Charter School Liaison Ms. Loretta White. The guests addressed the parents and answered questions.

More than 100 parents showed their support by attending the PTO meeting on Wednesday. $1500 was raised with chocolate sale. Congratulations to CMIT South community.

  VERY INVOLVED PARENTS  
 

Breakfast with the Principal continues. Morgan parents came in for a long and productive discussion on Wednesday. Homework, grading policy, Edmodo, STEM Fair, sports, and communication were some of the topics. With NCAT parents, similar topics were discussed on Thursday.

I appreciate the feedback and involvement of our parents. CMIT South continues to listen to our parents and improve the educational program with your invaluable contribution.

7th and 8th grade breakfasts will soon start in the upcoming months.

. LUNCHEON WITH THE NEW PARENTS  
 

CMIT South enrolled some students after August 24th and the new parents did not have a chance to attend back to school nights. In order to provide the new parents another opportunity, CMIT South administration held a luncheon orientation on Thursday. Mr. AG, Mrs. Asafa, Ms. Futrell, Dr. Reed, and Ms. Warehime presented CLF school model, middle and high school programs, and answered questions.

We welcome our recently enrolled parents and look forward to working with our families closely.

  CMIT South Music Program  
 

CMIT South is happy to inform parents that we have secured an instructor for those students who are interested in playing musical instruments. This program will hold after school starting the week of October 5, 2015 from 3:00pm - 4:30pm. Schedules will be shared with students who express interest. Students will participate in three sessions of a hour and half during a two week period. Please fill out the interest form below if you are interested. If you have more than one child, please fill out the form for each child. Fee for the entire school year is $350.00 with $50.00 due upon confirmation by October 2, 2015. Please make all payments payable to Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation.

  Tardy After School Pick Up  
 

All students are expected to be picked up by 3:15 p.m. unless they are staying for a club or enrichment activity. CMIT Administration gave parents a pass during the first three weeks of school to figure out travel time and pick up arrangements. Starting Monday 9/22/2015, when a student is not picked up on time the parent will receive a email reminder of the pick up expectations. The second time this occurs the parent will receive a certified letter reminding them of the expectations. The third time parents will be asked to attend a face to face meeting with the administration. At the forth occurrence the appropriate authorities will be notified.

  STEM Project Update  
 

The tentative date for this year's CLF STEM Fair is January 23, 2016. Prior to this date, all CLF schools will hold a STEM Fair at the school for their students. Students with the top 25% scores will be participating in the CLF STEM Fair. Students are to complete preceeding parts of the project before moving on to the next parts. Please keep this dates in mind.

Please note that new students are those enrolled on or after August 1, 2015.

STEM Proposal - Due 09/11/2015 (09/30 for new students)

Feedback on Proposal - 09/18/2015 (10/06 for new students)

Rough Draft research paper - Due 10/30/2015 at midnight

First quarter progress report will be available for viewing on Schoolmax by 09/29/2015. Please visit Schoolmax to see how your child is progressing. Any discrepancies should be addressed to the teacher of record via email. Progress reports will be released on 10/06/2015. Please ask you students for their progress report when they get home.

Starting in the upcoming weeks, IDs will be required at school premises as it was last year.

Homeroom teachers check IDs and assign SIS points daily. Classroom teachers are encouraged to check IDs during the day and assign SIS points at random times. Administration will also assign random ID check moments for the entire building. Awards will be given weekly to students who are prepared with their student ID.

Creating a Garden to Feed a Pocket of the World

Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to Noon

Edmonston's Community Garden, 5010 47th Avenue, Edmonston

Help the town of Edmonston create a community garden which will help this food desert to get access to fresh vegetables. We will provide all of the materials and supplies and you will help create an area where families can grow their own vegetables. Helping the Anacostia One Storm Drain At a Time

Sunday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to Noon

Did you know that all of the trash that is thrown onto to streets and sidewalks in the area around College Park goes into the Anacostia River and onto the Chesapeake Bay? Help remind people to not dump trash onto our streets by stenciling stormwater inlets at Edmonston. We will provide all of the materials and supplies that you need.   After School Clubs and Sports  
 

All students who were selected for clubs were notified via email of their club placement. Please advise that parents are to pick their students up from club on-time. We ask all parents arrive 5 minutes before the dismissal of the club to ensure student is picked up on time.

If a student is planning on trying out for Basketball or Soccer. Please complete the following packet as well as the physical. All forms should be turned into the main office by October 15 in order to tryout. The forms can be found at the link below: http://www1.pgcps.org/athletics/index.aspx?id=181070

Please note the following eligibility requirements for trying out for sports.

1. Students in grades 7th and 8th are required to have a 2.0 from the previous grading period

2. Students in the 6th grade are automatically eligible for fall sports. They must have a 2.0 from the previous grading period to participate in winter and spring sports.

What is CMIT's Daily Schedule?
7:35- 7:45am:
- Student arrival (drop off is at the side entrance)
- Doors close at 7:45am (after 7:45am parents need to sign late students in at the Front Office)

7:35 - 7:57am:
- Homeroom (Breakfast is available during this time until 7:50am)

8:00am - 2:49pm for 6th grade and 2:54 for 7th grade:
- Academic instruction

2:49/2:54 - 3:05 pm:
Student pick-up outside (Students who are not picked up by 3:05pm will be waiting outside for their ride. There is no adult supervision for these students during this time).

Clubs and enrichment activities will begin immediately following dismissal. All club/enrichment participants must report directly to the cafeteria. Students who continuously fail to report directly to their designated locations will lose the privilege to participate in any after school activities.

How do I pay for my child's lunch?
Breakfast and lunch are served every day. You can add money to your child's account by visiting this link. You can also pay by cash or money order in the cafeteria.

Can my child bring their own lunch to school?
Students can bring a lunch from home. Lunches can be stored in the student's locker. Microwaves are available in the cafeteria to warm food. Refrigerators are not available for students.

What do they serve for school lunch?
