LOTTERY OPENS FOR PGCPS PCS FOR 2016-2017
 

Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) public charter schools will be accepting online applications for the 2016-2017 school year until January 29, 2016.

All Prince George’s County families can apply to a public charter school, as there are no attendance boundaries assigned to charter schools. Interested families must complete an online application at http://lottery.pgcps.org/ for each child they wish to enroll.

Prospective public charter school families can attend one of the open houses below to find out more about CMIT South instructional programs.

Berwyn Heights Town-Wide Clean Up

When: Saturday, November 7, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Registration starts at 10 am

Where: Berwyn Heights Town Center --5700 Berwyn Road, Berwyn Heights, MD 20740.

Free pizza/drinks will be provided to all volunteers from 12:00 - 12:30 pm! Students can earn community service hours! Participants should wear pants, long sleeves, and closed-toe shoes. We will provide instructions and distribute clean-up supplies, (safety vests, rubber gloves, trash bags, and pickers).

Picture Day is Coming!

Picture Day is Thursday, November 12, 2015.

Order forms were sent home with students this week.


Picture Day Attire

Students are required to wear their official dress uniform.

1. Shirt: White oxford CMIT shirt with CMIT logo on upper left side. Shirt must be tucked in at all times.

2. Tie: Boys will wear a blue neck tie to match the blue in the CMIT logo. Girls will wear a blue cross-over tie or blue neck tie that matches the blue in the CMIT logo.

3. Pants: Navy blue or khaki pants (same as regular uniform standards)

4. Shoes: Black (same as regular uniform standards)

5. Belt: Black (same as regular uniform standard

Fundraising Effort

Remember Picture Day is a fundraising opportunity for CMIT South. For every package ordered the school earns a little over 30%! This an excellent way for you and the school to benefit. We encourage all families to participate.

Earlier this week, a damaged cellphone was found and no one has come to the main office to make a claim. If your student is missing their cellphone please contact me with key information such as kind of phone, color, background picture, etc. and I will return it to the rightful owner. Thank you!

PARENT SHADOWING
 
CMIT-South requests you provide us 24-hour notice if you would like to shadow your child for a day. The request should be sent to secretary@cmitsouth.org and received within our operating office hours if you would like to shadow the next day.

Included in the subject line of your email should be Parent Shadow, Child's name (University). The body of your email should be your name and the date() you wish to shadow.

Your email request will be processed accordingly when received in a timely manner. You will receive a return email only if this request can't be accommodated for reasons such as testing, for example.

ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS
SchoolMAX Access Lockout
 

ATTN: PGCPS Parents/Guardians

Back in April 2014, PGCPS changed the SchoolMax Parent Portal registration process, and asked that you register using the new system. All of the old accounts have now been disabled (created before April 2014). In order to log into SchoolMax, you must complete the parent self-service registration process. If you already have a self-service registered account (created after April 2014), please use it to log into SchoolMax. Your email address will be your only username and is case-sensitive. If you do not have a self-service registered account, please click HERE to register.

If you are unable to register, or have any questions about this process, please contact Ms. Colón (jcolon@cmitsouth.org).

*If you are still having issues accessing your account via the PGCPS webpage, please contact me for assistance. Families having trouble were able to gain access to SchoolMAX while meeting with me during Tech Savvy Parent Night. I am now offering walk-in office hours from 8 AM - 11 AM for those who have yet to gain access and may need one-on-one assistance or training.

SIS Rewards
Students have been earning positive point and positive rewards.

This month we celebrated students who earned 3 consecutive months of positive points by ordering them a college t-shirt of their choice to wear every Friday!

Students who earned positive points for the month of October, were celebrated on Friday afternoon. Rita's Ice was served.

Students who earned a casual day for their points of -11 or less during the month of October can dress down on Monday, November 9. Parents should check their emails to ensure their student is eligible.

We will also be giving out "pick a casual day" pass to any student who earned two months consecutive positive points thus far.

First Quarter Honor Roll Ceremony
 
First Quarter Honor Roll Assembly will occur Friday, November 13 at 8:15 a.m. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend.

Please advise students earning High Honor Roll (all As & Bs), Principal's Honor Roll (4.0), and Scholars of the Month will be recognized during the ceremony.

All students who earned a 3.0 GPA or higher regardless of their grades in any particular subjects will receive a certificate in their classroom.

Students will be notified of their participation in the next week.

Smithsonian Museum of National History, Washington, DC

When: November 24, 2015

Cost: $15.00

Eligibility:

• MUST NOT HAVE LOST MORE THAN 15 SIS POINTS BETWEEN OCTOBER 1, 2015 AND OCTOBER 31, 2015.

• NO LEVEL III OR IV DISCIPLINARY VIOLATIONS DURING THE PERIOD PRIOR TO THE TRIP

• MUST WEAR OXFORD SHIRT AND TIE FOR THE TRIP (no refund will be issued if the students cannot go on the trip due to uniform violation)

• MUST PAY THE ABOVE AMOUNT, IN FULL, BETWEEN NOVEMBER 2 – NOVEMBER 4, 2015.


Bowie State and University of Maryland College Visit

When: November 30th, 2015

Cost: $15

Who: First 50 8th grade students who pay the full amount and meet all requirements will be able to attend.

Eligibility:

• MUST NOT HAVE LOST MORE THAN 15 SIS POINTS BETWEEN OCTOBER 12, 2015 AND NOVEMBER 10, 2015.

• NO LEVEL III OR IV DISCIPLINARY VIOLATIONS DURING THE PERIOD PRIOR TO THE TRIP

• MUST WEAR OXFORD SHIRT AND TIE FOR THE TRIP (no refund will be issued if the students cannot go on the trip due to uniform violation)

• MUST PAY THE ABOVE AMOUNT, IN FULL, BETWEEN NOVEMBER 11 – NOVEMBER 13, 2015.

IFly Indoor Skydiving, Virginia Beach, VA

When: December 22, 2015

Cost: $75.00

Payment for the field trip will be in two installments - $40.00 due on November 6, 2015 and $35.00 due on December 1, 2015. Please note all payments are final. SIS point eligibility apply. What is the Uniform Policy?

How do we order uniform items?
Uniform items can be ordered by completing the OWI order form.

What uniform items should we order?
At least
- 2 CMIT South Polo shirts (1 blue, 1 green)
- 1 CMIT South fleece or windbreaker
- 1 CMIT South White oxford shirt
- 1 blue tie (neck tie for boys, crisscross tie for girls)
- 1 CMIT South PE t-shirt

Items to be purchased at a department store:

Pants:
- Navy blue or khaki
Shoes:
- Solid black (no markings or insignias)
Belt:
- Solid black
Athletic pants:
- Solid blue or black (no markings or insignias)

What is CMIT's Daily Schedule?
7:35- 7:45am:
- Student arrival (drop off is at the side entrance)
- Doors close at 7:45am (after 7:45am parents need to sign late students in at the Front Office)

7:35 - 7:57am:
- Homeroom (Breakfast is available during this time until 7:50am)

8:00am - 2:49pm for 6th grade and 2:54 for 7th grade:
- Academic instruction

2:49/2:54 - 3:05 pm:
Student pick-up outside (Students who are not picked up by 3:05pm will be waiting outside for their ride. There is no adult supervision for these students during this time).

Clubs and enrichment activities will begin immediately following dismissal. All club/enrichment participants must report directly to the cafeteria. Students who continuously fail to report directly to their designated locations will lose the privilege to participate in any after school activities.

How do I pay for my child's lunch?
Breakfast and lunch are served every day. You can add money to your child's account by visiting this link. You can also pay by cash or money order in the cafeteria.

Can my child bring their own lunch to school?
Students can bring a lunch from home. Lunches can be stored in the student's locker. Microwaves are available in the cafeteria to warm food. Refrigerators are not available for students.

What do they serve for school lunch?
A monthly menu is provided by Food and Nutrition Services. Click here for lunch and breakfast menu.

What is the academic calendar?
